Oral surgery involves various types of interventions that treat all soft tissues, whether it is the gum, cementum (i.e. the tissue covering the tooth at the root) and bone tissue. The two most common gum diseases are gingivitis and periodontitis.
Gingivitis results from poor oral hygiene and plaque build-up, it is an inflammation of the gum that manifests as redness, bleeding, swelling and pain. It is therefore necessary to visit the dentists as soon as possible to avoid the development of periodontitis.
If gingivitis is not treated in time, it evolves into periodontitis. The latter is a disease of bacterial origin, so periodontitis is treated with a small surgical procedure.
